Since 2019, the editorial board of Verfassung und Recht in Übersee / World Comparative Law has awarded the annual “VRÜ/WCL Article Prize” to the contribution that best resonates with the
journal's mission statement and exemplifies the type of scholarship the journal aims to encourage in the future.
For Volume 55 (2022), the editorial board has decided to award the Article Prize to the outstanding editorial “Autocratic Legalism 2.0: Insights from a Global Collaborative Research Project” by Fabio de Sa e Silva. The editorial does more than just introduce the broad theme of the special issue. The piece lays out an ambitious agenda for future research in the study of “autocratic legalism”. The call for broad, multidisciplinary scholarship is particularly appropriate, given the multiple challenges that contemporary constitutionalism faces in various nations across the South-North axis. Given the current trends in elections across various countries, the significance of this work is likely to increase even more in the future. In the field of global constitutional studies, the agenda set forth is both topical and urgent.
The board congratulates the author on this achievement, which it hopes will inspire other scholars and future submissions to the journal. The Article Prize will be announced on the journal’s
website and includes a one-year subscription to the journal.
